Every year it amazes me how supportive one small town can be even though there are many fundraising events for many great causes. Once again I thank the people of Russell & area and my internet friends for the wonderful support I am receiving in my 20km Challenge for Life Walk and in helping me fullfill the promise I made to my sister who passed away on November 9, 2004. I had promised her that I would try to make a difference in finding a cure for cancer and fundraising and walking is how I feel I can best do that. On behalf of Janice and myself as well as Cancercare manitoba and all those affected by cancer, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Without you, our supporters, we would not be able to accomplish it. Come out in 11 days, June 13th and cheer us on as we walk with pride in a job well done.


It was estimated that in 2008, more than 6000 of our fathers, mothers, children, friends and neighbours would be diagnosed with cancer. And at this pace, by 2020 cancer rates will rise an overwhelming 50%. I think it’s safe to say that there isn’t one of us who hasn’t been touched by cancer.

But the good news is that with a focus on prevention, early detection and research into causes and new treatments, this deadly trend can be reversed!

So, I’m taking the Challenge – CancerCare’s Challenge for Life! By participating in this “Made-in-Manitoba” event, I have committed to help reduce my own risk of cancer by taking steps to improve my overall health. I am also committing to raise at least $1000 to support CancerCare’s work on behalf of all Manitobans.
